December 2nd, 2009

Dear Fellow Providers, Donors, Funders and Friends of Interlude:

After many months of discussion and exploration with DMHAS leadership, Interlude has decided to close our Outreach Program.  This program has provided case management services to men and women diagnosed with mental illness for 26 years in the Greater Danbury area and for 23 years in New Milford.

While this decision has been a difficult one, it is, in part due to the downturn in the economy. Additionally in June 2009, an informal needs assessment was conducted among the leaders of the Greater Danbury service system.  We examined the spectrum of services available and the capacity of each service.  It was determined that there was an over capacity of case management services and a need for an increase in residential beds.  To that end, Interlude decided to close its Outreach Program and reallocate the funding to our residential programs.

The Outreach Program will close at the end of February.  Interlude has worked closely with the WCMHN to ensure that there will be an appropriate amount of time to transition clients to new case management providers.

As the Outreach Program closes, the funding will be reallocated to the Condo Program and the Recovery Program.  Each of these programs will in time, be expanded. Detailed information about these expansions will be distributed in the spring.

Please feel free to contact Cynthia McLaughlin, our Clinical Director or me if you have any questions or would like additional information.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Deschenes
Executive Director
